An autism course we ran for a charity in London
In July 2019 my husband Erik and I ran an autism course for the Log Cabin, a London charity that works with disabled children. They run after school clubs and holiday clubs, providing respite and activities for school-aged children with disabilities. It was a fantastic and highly interesting day. They wrote and asked many questions about autism which we answered and discussed. We looked at the best ways to connect to children with autism, ways to reduce stress and enhance engagement, communication and learning in fun, interactive ways. We discussed that every behaviour has a reason and looked into ways to see behind specific behaviours to see what needs the child may well be trying to meet. It was a day filled with light-bulb moments for many of the staff and lots of personal stories presented and discussed.
